Why this adapter

It does the same job as a generic ELM327 Wi-Fi, but it is made by Vgate, a brand that publishes the full list of OBD2 protocols it supports, and it goes to sleep by itself when the car is parked.

It reads and clears engine fault codes (including manufacturer-specific ones), turns off the warning light and shows live data: boost, temperature, engine load, O2 sensors, fuel use... With apps that support it, it also logs data and draws charts.

While connected

Like any Wi-Fi adapter, it takes over the phone's Wi-Fi: while you use it, the phone has no internet over Wi-Fi.
