01 — Android
Getting started on an Android phone
Read and clear engine fault codes and watch live data with Torque Pro or Car Scanner. Classic Bluetooth is enough.
Practical guide · OBD2
What it is, which versions really exist, which ones work with FORScan and which app to use to read and clear your car's fault codes.

Which one
The right adapter depends on two things: what you will use it with, and whether you need every module or just the engine.
01 — Android
Read and clear engine fault codes and watch live data with Torque Pro or Car Scanner. Classic Bluetooth is enough.
02 — iPhone
iOS does not support classic Bluetooth: a normal ELM327 Bluetooth will not work. Look for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth LE (4.0).
03 — PC / laptop
If the laptop has Bluetooth, a Bluetooth one works. A USB cable gives the most stable connection.
04 — Ford / Mazda
To reach every module and change settings you need USB and MS-CAN access.
05 — BMW / MINI
To code or diagnose a BMW or MINI from your phone (Bluetooth 4.0: works with iPhone too).

Common questions
No. iOS does not support classic Bluetooth for these devices. On iPhone you need a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth LE adapter and an app that supports it, such as Car Scanner.
No. The original maker only released versions 1.0 to 1.4b and 2.0 to 2.3. "v1.5" is a clone number: the version is just what the firmware reports. What matters is the chip; the PIC18F25K80, found in the best-rated clones, is in every generic ELM327 sold by Satkit, whether it reports v1.5 or v2.1.
An adapter with access to the MS-CAN network: a modified ELM327 with an HS/MS-CAN switch, or one that switches by itself such as the ELS27. To program modules, USB is best.
For reading engine faults, almost any car with an OBD2 port: in Europe, petrol cars from about 2001 and diesels from about 2004. Other modules depend on the brand, the app and the adapter.
