What YB9-B means
- YB: Yuasa's YuMicron series of high-performance conventional flooded batteries.
- 9: in this case, it is close to the capacity: the YB9-B has a capacity of 9 Ah at the 10-hour rate.
- -B: the combination of terminal layout, vent outlet and casing shape. There is no general rule; check the drawing for each battery code.

| Battery code | Dimensions | Polarity | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| YB9L-B | 137 × 77 × 141 mm | + right | Same casing, opposite polarity: it will not work even if it fits. |
| 12N9-4B-1 | 135 × 75 × 139 mm | + left | Almost the same casing and the same polarity, but lower starting current (85 A EN): it is not a replacement. |
| 12N9-3B | 135 × 75 × 139 mm | + right | Same casing, opposite polarity: it will not work even if it fits. |

OUTDO YB9-BS: 12 V and 9 Ah, 120 A starting current, sealed AGM, factory-activated and factory-charged.
Before switching to a sealed battery
The original is a conventional flooded battery. An AGM or gel battery can replace it as a maintenance-free option if the motorcycle's regulator/rectifier charges between 14.0 and 14.8 V at 3000–4000 rpm. If it charges less, stick with a conventional flooded battery. A sealed battery has no vent tube, so leave the motorcycle's vent tube disconnected.
