What does YB7-A mean?
- YB: Yuasa’s YuMicron series of high-performance conventional flooded batteries.
- 7: here, it does roughly correspond to capacity: the YB7-A has 8 Ah at the 10-hour rate.
- -A: the terminal layout, vent outlet and case shape. There is no general rule: the diagram for each battery code is what matters.
Battery codes that are easy to mix up with the YB7-A
| Battery code | Dimensions | Polarity | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| YB7L-B | 135 × 75 × 133 mm | Positive terminal on the right | Same case, opposite polarity: it will not work, even if it fits. |
| 12N7-4A | 135 × 75 × 133 mm | Positive terminal on the left | Almost the same case and the same polarity, but lower starting current (70 A EN): it is not a replacement. |
| YTX7L-BS | 115 × 72 × 132 mm | Positive terminal on the right | Opposite polarity and a different case. |
Satkit battery for YB7-A
YB7-A AGM Motorcycle Battery: 12 V and 7 Ah, sealed AGM.
Before switching to a sealed battery
The original battery is conventional flooded. A maintenance-free AGM or gel battery can replace it if the motorcycle’s regulator/rectifier charges between 14.0 and 14.8 V at 3000–4000 rpm. If it charges less, stick with a conventional battery. A sealed battery has no vent tube, so leave the motorcycle’s tube disconnected.
