BMW motorcycles from before model year 2017 do not have the OBD2 socket found in cars but a round 10-pin socket. This cable turns it into a normal 16-pin OBD2 socket for your adapter: for example, an ELM327 Bluetooth to use with MotoScan on an Android phone. On an iPhone, Biketune also needs this cable on BMWs with the round socket.
From model year 2017 BMW bikes already have the 16-pin OBD2 socket and do not need this cable.
What you can do with it
What you can do depends on the app and the adapter, not the cable. With MotoScan and an ELM327 you can read and clear fault codes and see live data; some service functions (such as resetting the service reminder) need specific adapters. We cover it in ELM327 for motorcycles.
