Product description

The KT152 IC and LED tester is a compact multifunction device designed to test and identify DIP logic chips and common LEDs quickly and easily. Its pocket size (60 mm x 37 mm x 15 mm) and included AAA battery make it a practical tool for electronics technicians and hobbyists.

Main features:

  • Tests and recognises more than 1500 types of integrated circuits, including 74LSXX, 74HC, CD4000, HEF4000, CD4500 and more.
  • Identifies devices digit by digit on a 0.36-inch LED display.
  • ZIF socket (zero insertion force) for DIP devices up to 24 pins.
  • Tests LEDs and LED matrices with a single button.
  • Approximate test time of 1/2 second per device.
  • Runs on one AAA battery (included), easy to replace.

Instructions for use:

  • Insert the AAA battery, observing the polarity indicated.
  • Hold the tester with the display facing down and lift the ZIF socket lever.
  • Place the integrated circuit to be tested with pin 1 (normally marked with a notch) facing the bottom of the socket.
  • Lower the lever to secure the IC and press the TEST button.
  • The display will show the device number if it is in good condition or "Err" if it is damaged or inserted incorrectly.
  • LEDs under test will light up if they are working correctly.

Precautions:

  • Do not use the tester with integrated circuits connected in circuit.
  • Do not test charged components to avoid damage.
  • Replace the battery when the voltage drops below 1.2V.
  • It is not compatible with LEDs that require more than 5V to light up.

Compatibility:

This tester supports a wide range of integrated circuits such as:

  • 74LS, 74HC, 54, CD4000, HEF4000, CD4500 and more families.
  • LM324, LM339, LM393, LM358, LM386 amplifiers and comparators.
  • NE555, 7555, NE556, 7556 timers.
  • PC817, NEC2501, TLP521, 4N25, 4N35 optocouplers, among others.
  • ULN2003, ULN2004, ULN2803, ULN2804 drivers.

Typical uses:

  • Quick diagnosis of logic chips in electronics repair.
  • Checking LEDs and LED matrices in projects and maintenance.
  • Identifying electronic components without needing documentation.

The KT152 IC and LED tester is an essential tool for professionals and enthusiasts looking for a portable, accurate and easy-to-use solution for testing integrated circuits and LEDs in the field or workshop.

  • Tests more than 1500 common DIP integrated circuits

Customer Questions & Answers

What are the dimensions, weight and materials of the tester, and what is included in the box?

The KT152 measures 60 mm x 37 mm x 15 mm and weighs approximately 50 g (without the AAA battery). The body is made from durable ABS plastic and features a zero-insertion-force ZIF socket. The box includes the tester and one AAA battery. No additional accessories are supplied.

Is any adjustment or calibration needed for installation/use, and what common mistakes do users make?

No calibration is required. Use is straightforward: insert the IC correctly, close the ZIF socket and press the button. The most common mistakes are inserting the IC the wrong way round, testing it on the board, or using a flat battery. The unit indicates failure on the display ('Err') if the IC is fitted incorrectly, is faulty, or the battery is insufficient (<1.2 V).

How does the KT152 compare with more advanced IC testers or bench multimeters?

The KT152 stands out for ease of use and portability, but it is only suitable for quick tests of DIP ICs and low-voltage LEDs. Unlike laboratory equipment, it does not measure analogue parameters or perform in-depth functional tests; it also does not support SMD or custom configurations. It is ideal for quick diagnostics, but not a substitute for bench instruments in professional work or R&D.

What types of integrated circuits can the KT152 IC and LED tester test?

It can test more than 1500 types of integrated circuits, including 74LS, 74HC, CD4000, HEF4000, CD4500 and other families.

Does the tester include a battery?

Yes, it includes one AAA battery so it can be used immediately.

Can I test LEDs with this device?

Yes, the tester can light and verify LEDs and LED matrices that require up to 5 volts.

How should the integrated circuit be inserted for testing?

IC pin 1, normally marked with a notch, should face the bottom of the ZIF socket.

Can it be used with integrated circuits connected in circuit?

No, the tester should not be used with components connected in circuit to avoid damage or incorrect readings.
